Default Old timer thinking about coming back...

Hi all...

for some of you that might remember me, Hi.
for those who have no idea who I am, Hi.

I played Guild Wars for almost 2 years, and took a break for about almost a year now, possibly a year, I quit frustrated with GW turning Heroe's Ascent literally into Heros ascent, imbalanced Ret Spike teams and mostly out of boredom. But, I'm even more bored now and I was thinking of coming back to GW and brush up some of my old skills.

Main question is, is this game still worth it? I was just browsing the guild ladder and the only guild I recognised was EW, seems that most old players have either quit or reformed under new names.

Is this game still focused on PvP, and has it gotten any better (balanced) or still the same FoTM fame farming or guild ladder running around?

What's Eye of the North like?

Thanks~

By the way, can you keybind keys yet? I was never a big fan of clicking... I know that WoW only uses 8 skills but after playing games that have 20+ different keybinds, the whole 1-2-3...8 thing just doesn't cut it.

pve has never been PATHETIC, but now it's a little imba. I'm thinking of switching to only High-end pve, or back to pvp (i used to do gvg, may do HA)
there has been a lot of QQing but pvp is fine imo

No.
PvP is mostly okay...been better, but been worse too. However, the game is dying...People are leaving to other games, guilds are dying out...
HA is all about fame farm
GvG is all about ladder farm and getting pwnd in monthly by some random guild running whatever imba build that isn't nerfed yet.
PvE is a joke.

The recent balance update is promising.

But as far as "coming back"... This isn't WoW, you're not paying $15 to see if things are still screwed. Try the game, if you don't like where it is, what have you lost?

The money the game costs + time .

In that case, it's hard to say. It depends what you expect of it. The quality of gameplay still hasn't recovered completely from Nightfall's destruction of it, but things are at a relatively stable point now, thanks to the first decent balance update in months.

Was HA ever worth it? But as others have said, Recent balance updates do seem decent.

Nah, people like to point to a single point of fail, but HA wasn't worth it in prophercies. When will people learn that pugs = HA.....For that matter GvG become a place where laziness = skill and it really become that way after the Factions Championships, now your only considered skilled when you fight in mirror matches.

Buy the pvp kit and have fun. Its cheap if the only thing you want to do is pvp.

Of course the game has seen better days. Very few people play the game in high end pvp. ATs are very restrictive due to scheduling. Ladder doesn't mean anything anymore. HA is bad as it ever way (never been good to begin with).

You can of course still bind your 8 skills, team mates etc. to any key you want.. if that was your question >_> (Just not sequence or multiple actions to one key).

But seriously, its just whatever you want in the game. It can still be a fun game and lots of interesting GvG's and Automated Tournies.. and RAWR Cup as well. As long as you find a fun guild with like-minded people. *shrugs* FoTM builds will always be around in a certain degree anyway.. but I still see enough variety.
Maybe it's a good idea to get an account from an old friend that quit (assuming you have some after 2 years of playing) and see if you still like Guild Wars.

And for all the people that whine so much about Guild Wars pvp is dead. Meh whatever. If it's dead for you doesn't mean another can still enjoy the game or that the game in general is alive enough. I recently quit after getting bored of it and having too little time.. but I still enjoy the occasional playing and see many others still enjoying the game (even in pvp). Less crying, more playing kk.

oh, and GWEN is ok if you like PvE *rolleyes*

I'm also just coming back, used to be hardcore into gvg (flashes champion title )
but it was dieing when i quit (cough) about a year ago too.
I dont know what its like now, but i assume completely dead in my time zone, Australia.
Im thinking of just playing HA, but if its as bad as people say, i might just stick to TF2....

There are 2 competitive gvg guilds in Australia, being iC and the randomly-active Law. OCAU and AUST still run around at times. There are a couple of Korean guilds playing in aussie time zones, but you are pretty much screwed if you want to open ladder.
HA is sweet as in aussie times if you have contacts. taking halls is pretty easy, as is farming fame.

There's so many other games out there to try out. I'd say try some other MMOs, or even other game-types like first-person shooters. Guild Wars will eventually pass, especially with all the negative updates, irks and imbalances that have been implemented. Check the GW main website and see what updates & changes have been made and you'll see what I'm talking about.

PvE's no fun (PUGs are FTL and always will be and Hero/Henching things get very boring and lonely... Guildies are the ONLY way to go but too many good players are /ragequitting, making room for the casual/new players).
RA (Not fun anymore because the dishonorable combatant system forces players to play with your team no matter how imbalanced they are... and sometimes they maliciously enter to purposely lose matches).
TA (Success Rate's abysmal if you don't have 3 other players you know that have all campaigns and expansion unlocked as well as experience with builds and have ventrilo).
HB (Shrine-Capfests FTL).
GvG (No longer the same as skill updates keep smashing player's Pro Builds each & every time).
HA (Too Much Leetism going on... i.e.: R10+++ LFM XXXWay! Must Show Your Rank!).

Catch my drift o_o? So try something new.

I played lots of RA before and after the dishonor system changes and it's a lot better now. You don't need a healer on your team to get a glad point. Griefers have always been a part of RA, and now you can /report them.

That doesn't make sense. The nerfs don't target balanced builds that take skill, they target mindless overpowered builds. The nerf response is faster now than I think it's ever been. I remember enduring months of Reaper's Mark/Migraine before Izzy finally got the message. Now it only takes a couple of weeks for serious issues to get addressed.
